Mammaw’s Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes have been my favorite food since I was young, and I truly believe it is because my grandma (aka “Mammaw”) makes the BEST mashed potatoes. It used to be a Sunday tradition that my family would go to my grandparents house for lunch. 9/10 times mashed potatoes were served, and no matter how big the bowl they were always one of the first foods to go. We all love them, and for good reason! They are so creamy and buttery.

We hosted Friendsgiving this past weekend and I knew I had to serve them to our guests. When I called my grandma she was so excited to share the exact recipe and method.

Some tips:

-Use butter potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes. When boiled they are so smooth and delicious.

-Add sour cream and heavy cream. The sour cream adds a delicious flavor and the heavy cream just makes them so… creamy.

-Don’t skimp on the butter, just trust me on this. The butter adds to the delicious flavor of these potatoes making them anything but bland.

-Be careful not to over mix. This recipe uses a handheld mixer, which I know people have mixed feelings about. I love how smooth it makes the potatoes, but if you over mix they will get gummy. The potatoes should be so soft after boiling that it should really take no more than ~10 seconds to mix them together with a hand mixer.

-Add salt and pepper to compliment these potatoes!
