Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry
I’ve been seeing EVERYONE talk about this Japanese barbecue sauce and when I saw it at Foxtrot last weekend I knew I had to buy it and give it a try. Well, I literally couldn’t wait and made this stir fry the very next day for lunch. It was so easy to make and has soo much flavor! I honestly kept this recipe very simple and I’ll admit I cheated and used microwaveable brown rice from Trader Joe’s, but it saved some time! Find the video for this recipe here.

Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry
This beef and broccoli is such a quick dish to make but is loaded with flavor. Flank steak marinated in Japanese barbecue sauce, cooked together with broccoli and brown rice. What's not to love?!
Ingredients
- 1-2 heads of broccoli
- 1/2 yellow onion chopped
- Salt & pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 (10 oz) bag frozen brown rice
Sauce
- 3 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 cloves minced garlic
Steak and marinade
- 0.75 lbs flank steak cut into small strips
- 2 tbsp arrowroot powder mixed w 2 tbsp warm water
- 1/4 cup Japanese barbecue sauce
- 1 tsp baking soda
Topping
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Add steak, arrowroot powder mixture, Japanese barbecue sauce, and baking soda to a bowl. Mix well and place in refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- Cook rice according to package instructions and set aside.
- Chop broccoli into florets, I personally like smaller pieces of broccoli. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add broccoli and blanch for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and immediately place broccoli in an ice bath for 2-3 more minutes. Drain and set aside for later use.
- Heat olive oil in skillet over medium heat. Add onion + salt and pepper and let saute for ~2 minutes. Add meat and let cook ~8 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the meat is cooked through. Finally stir in the cooked rice, broccoli, and sauce. Let simmer 1-2 more minutes.
- Serve with sesame seeds on top.
