Bang Bang Broccoli

My husband and I went to Planta a few weeks ago, and while there were many things that stood out on the menu, the bang bang broccoli was a crowd favorite! I knew I needed to recreate it at home (but I’ll admit, this version isn’t vegan). As much as I like broccoli it has to be mixed with a lot of other flavors! Basically, you will never catch me eating steamed broccoli with no flavor… bleh. I like it mixed in bowls with dressings or roasted with a lot of seasonings. This is my new favorite way to make it though!

Bang bang broccoli is really simple to make. You coat the broccoli with flour, dip it in egg, and then dredge it through panko bread crumbs. While it’s roasting in the oven, you mix together sriracha mayo and sweet chili sauce to make the best sauce that you will coat the broccoli in once it’s cooked. This sauce seriously has the perfect little tang!

Enough rambling, let’s get to the recipe!

Bang Bang Broccoli

Bang Bang Broccoli is unique and flavorful! Crispy roasted broccoli is coated in tangy and spicy sauce. It has a zesty kick from sriracha mayo and sweet chili sauce. It has a bold flavor that everyone will love!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium heads of broccoli
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp. arrowroot powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1.5 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 3 eggs
Bang Bang Sauce
  • 1/2 cup sriracha mayo
  • 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Cut heads of broccoli into small florets (remove large stem and leaves).
  3. In a large bowl mix together the flour, arrowroot powder, and salt.
  4. Add broccoli florets to the bowl and mix well, coating each of the broccoli florets in the flour mixture.
  5. In a separate small bowl whisk together the eggs. Add the panko crumbs to another small bowl.
  6. Place the broccoli florets in the egg wash, and then dredge through the panko crumbs. You will want to do this in very small batches (only a couple of florets at a time) to make sure they are coated evenly.
  7. Once coated, place the broccoli on a parchment lined baking sheet. Make sure to not overcrowd the pan. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
  8. While the broccoli is roasting, place the sriracha mayo and the sweet chili sauce in a large bowl and whisk together.
  9. As soon as the broccoli comes out of the oven, add it to the bowl with the bang bang sauce and use a spatula to mix coating each of the florets evenly.
  10. Best served fresh!
